An advisory board which is considering an ordinance that would allow alcohol to be consumed in three public areas has decided to wait for input from other city boards.
The city's Ordinance Review Advisory Board met June 16 to review the drafted ordinance for the third time since it first was placed on its agenda in April. The ordinance would make it legal to consume alcohol at special events in the community rooms of the Derby Recreation Center and the new library and the enclosed shelter and amphitheater at High Park.
Assistant City Manager Stephanie Knebel has been communicating with other city boards on the ordinance but does not expect feedback from those entities until they have time to absorb and consider the proposed changes in policy. The members of ORAB said they would prefer not to make further changes in the draft ordinance until they have feedback from those boards.
ORAB members have discussed and heard public input on the ordinance at the two previous meetings.
"I'm at the point I want to back up and take a breath," said Van Willis, ORAB member.
