Nearly 1,300 people were in the water at Rock River Rapids on Sunday afternoon, following the trend which naturally links high attendance with daily admissions to the water park.
On the stormy Saturday which kicked off the weekend, only 97 people were in the water, according to Darcie Parkhurst, aquatics director for the Derby Recreation Commission. The average daily attendance is currently at 831 people, close to the 863 in 2008 and 860 in 2007, Parkhurst said.
The weather has helped admissions this year in the opening of the season, she said. Attendance typically builds into July and August.
"It continues to go up as the temperature goes up," she said.
